The
Return of the Jedi score was recorded at the Abbey Road studios in
January and February 1983 by the London Symphony Orchestra. The score
won another Oscar nomination for Williams. Because of the decrease of
popularity for the vinyl format, 'Return of the Jedi', which is the
longest score of the Original Trilogy, was only released on one LP
instead of two like Star Wars and Empire. |
Survivor's
Quest opens with a meeting between Talon Karrde and Luke and Mara
Skywalker. Karrde's people had earlier picked up an urgent
transmission, addressed to Luke, coming from Admiral Voss Parck on the
planet Nirauan. Before the message could be passed on, however, it had
been stolen by a member of Karrde's own organisation, one Dean Jinzler.
Fearing that the message might be somehow connected with the unknown
menace Parck and Baron Fel had warned them about two years previous,
Luke and Mara decide to head out to Nirauan. |
In
1980, the disco label RSO Records released the film's original
soundtrack in a double-album, with two long-playing (LP) records.
Combined, the two records featured 75 minutes of film music. This
double LP package also included a booklet presentation with pictures of
the main characters and action sequences from the film. Featured at the
end of the booklet was an interview with John Williams about the music
and the new themes, such as the "Imperial March (Darth Vader's Theme)"
and "Yoda's Theme". It also included a brief explanation of each track.
The front cover artwork featured the mask of Darth Vader against the
backdrop of outer space; and the back cover featured the famous "Gone
with the Wind" version of the poster art. As a side note, this package
marked the final time a double LP soundtrack set was ever issued
(Episode VI, the final movie to have an LP soundtrack released, had
only a single disc, also released by RSO Records). A double-cassette
edition was also released. |
Sherlock
Holmes is a fictional detective of the late 19th and early 20th
centuries, who first appeared in publication in 1887. He is the
creation of Scottish author and physician Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. A
brilliant London-based detective, Holmes is famous for his intellectual
prowess, and is renowned for his skillful use of "deductive reasoning"
while using abductive reasoning (inference to the best explanation) and
astute observation to solve difficult cases. He is arguably the most
famous fictional detective ever created, and is one of the best known
and most universally recognisable literary characters in any genre. |
His
Last Bow is a collection of seven Sherlock Holmes stories (eight in
American editions) by Arthur Conan Doyle, as well as the title of one
of the stories in that collection. Originally published in 1917, it
contains the various Holmes stories published between 1908 and 1913, as
well as the one-off title story from 1917. |
"The
Adventure of the Yellow Face", one of the 56 short Sherlock Holmes
stories written by British author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, is the third
tale from The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes. It was first published in
Strand Magazine in 1894 with original illustrations by Sidney Paget. |
The
story, set in 1890, follows Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson as they
attempt to solve the singular puzzle provided by a London pawnbroker,
Jabez Wilson, who is being paid very large sums of money for simply
coming to an office and copying the Encyclopædia Britannica. There is a
far more serious underlying motive, though. |
The
Complete Short Stories of Ernest Hemingway: The Finca Vigía Edition, is
a posthumous collection of Hemingway's short fiction, published in
1987. It contains the classic First Forty-Nine Stories plus a number of
other works and a foreword by his sons. |
